Growing Through Temptation

Every temptation is an opportunity to do good; temptation simply provides the choice! Every time we choose to do good instead of sin, we are growing in the character of Christ. God often uses our temptations to develop us!

As we continue looking at our 3rd purpose - created to be like Christ - we see that temptations in our life are a normal part of living in a sinful world. Temptations are a sign that Satan hates us, not a sign of weakness on our part.

We will never outgrow temptations, but we can overcome them. This week's lesson looks at how we can defeat temptation in our life. We don't need to always give in to it. God will provide a way out - the question is - are we willing to take it?

God has promised never to allow more on us than He puts in us to handle. What temptations are you facing today? Do you know how to successfully defeat them? Take a minute to download the handout and listen to today's lesson.

Share: If we believe that God is waiting to help us defeat temptation, why don't we turn to Him more often?

  1. I believe the reason why fits primarily into two groups: 1) Those who are not strong in the faith and are still living by the flesh more and trying to solve their own problems. As humans we are taught from day one to be self-reliant and independent. We are valued more as women if we are strong and not needing help. We teach our children to do things and problem solve on their own. We do not emphasize relying on God, and the fact that some problems cannot be fixed and we simply have to give them up to God in surrender.2) There are stronger(or longer time if we want to use that term) Christians who are ashamed to take certain things to God. They have failed Him by giving in to temptation in the first place and they know it was wrong. They get caught up in that shame factor and not the loving Father and forgiveness factor.

  2. Well said Nancy!
The world makes us feel like failures when we are not able to "problem solve" on our own. It is so easy to get caught up in the problem and not turn to God for his direction and mercy.
How refreshing to know that He is waiting to help us defeat temptation AND wants us to come to him.
